Summary

TELSORIX™-40 Tablet is a medicine used to treat high blood pressure. This medicine also reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke by lowering blood pressure. It can also be used in diabetics to protect kidney function and prevent further damage. It works by relaxing your blood vessels and promoting the free flow of blood. TELSORIX™-40 Tablet has some side effects like back pain, stomach pain, weakness, diarrhoea, sinus pain, and congestion. These side effects may subside by themselves. Consult your doctor if they bother you for a longer time or worsen. Avoid activities that require high mental alertness like driving vehicles and operating machines as this medicine may cause dizziness. Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to it. TELSORIX™-40 Tablet can be taken with or without food or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take more than the prescribed dose. Take this medicine every day at the same time to maintain a constant level in your blood. Do not stop the use of this medicine without consulting your doctor as it may increase your blood pressure. Exercise regularly and eat a healthy diet besides using this medicine for maximum benefits. TELSORIX™-40 Tablet may not be suitable for all people. It is not safe to use this medicine in children below 18 years of age as the safety and efficacy data for use are not available. Inform your doctor about all your ongoing medicines as they can interact with each other and cause serious side effects. Inform your doctor if you have pre-existing liver, kidney problems or any other health conditions. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or are breastfeeding before taking this medicine.

What is it prescribed for?

  • Hypertension

    Hypertension is a condition of high blood pressure. If it is untreated it may lead to heart attack and stroke (insufficient blood supply to your brain). Telmisartan 40 MG Tablet is used in the treatment of high blood pressure.

  • Reduce risk of heart-related and diabetes complications

    Telmisartan 40 MG Tablet relaxes your blood vessels, making it easier for your heart to pump blood. Therefore, it is used to reduce the risk of coronary artery disorder (a condition caused by plaque buildup in the wall of the arteries that supply blood to the heart) and stroke (insufficient blood supply to your brain), especially in the elderly. This medicine can also be used in diabetes to reduce the risk of kidney damage.

When not to use?

Allergy

Avoid taking Telmisartan 40 MG Tablet if you are allergic to it. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice symptoms such as skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulty, etc.

Severe liver disease

Telmisartan 40 MG Tablet is broken down and absorbed in your liver. Hence, this medicine is not recommended if you have pre-existing liver problems as it may lead to the accumulation of this medicine in your blood and increase the risk of side effects. It may also cause further liver damage.

2nd and 3rd trimester of pregnancy

Telmisartan 40 MG Tablet is not recommended for use in the second and third trimester of pregnancy as it may harm your foetus.

Breast-feeding

General warnings

Hypotension

Hypotension is low blood pressure. Telmisartan 40 MG Tablet may lead to hypotension if you take it in high doses. Your doctor may adjust the dose of this medicine based on your clinical condition.

Hyperkalemia

Telmisartan 40 MG Tablet may cause an increase in the potassium levels in your blood (hyperkalemia). Use this medicine with caution if you are taking potassium supplements, or if you have impaired kidney function. Your doctor may suggest tests to closely monitor your potassium levels if necessary while taking this medicine.

Liver disease

Telmisartan 40 MG Tablet is primarily broken down and absorbed in your liver. Use this medicine with caution if you have impaired liver function. This may increase the level of the medicine in your blood causing an increased risk of side effects.

Use in children

Telmisartan 40 MG Tablet is not recommended to use in children below 18 years of age as the safety and efficacy data are not available.

Driving vehicles and operating machines

Telmisartan 40 MG Tablet may cause drowsiness and dizziness in some people. Avoid driving vehicles and operating machines if you experience any such symptoms.

Dosage

Missed Dose

Take the missed dose of Telmisartan 40 MG Tablet as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed one.

Overdose

Never take more than the prescribed dose. If you have taken an overdose of Telmisartan 40 MG Tablet, seek medical attention immediately.

Use TELSORIX™-40 Tablet with caution if you have severe congestive heart failure (heart is unable to pump blood efficiently) due to the increased risk of kidney damage, myocardial ischemia (occurs when blood flow to the heart muscle (myocardium) is obstructed) and may worsen your heart condition.

General Instructions

Telmisartan 40 MG Tablet can be taken with or without food. Follow the instructions given by your doctor.

Take this medicine at the same time every day for the ease of remembering.

Do not break or crush the tablet in your mouth. Regular exercise and eating a low sodium diet besides taking this medicine may show better results. Avoid Potassium-rich foods while taking this medication.

Remember that this medicine will not cure your high blood pressure, but it does help control it. Hence, do not stop taking this medicine even if you feel better after a few doses as it is a long-term treatment.

Keep the medicine away from children and pets. Do not use this medicine after the date of expiry.

This medicine can cause dizziness, so get up slowly from a sitting position to avoid feeling dizzy.
