Summary

ETHCET-5 TABLETS belongs to a group of medicines called antihistamines. It is used to treat various allergic conditions such as hay fever, conjunctivitis, some skin reactions such as eczema, hives, and reactions to bites and stings. It also relieves watery eyes, runny nose, sneezing, and itching.

ETHCET-5 TABLETS can be taken with or without food. The dose required by you may vary depending on what you are taking it for. This medicine is usually taken in the evening, but follow the advice of your doctor on how to take it. You may need this medicine only on days you have symptoms, but if you are taking it to prevent the symptoms then you should take it regularly. If you miss doses or stop taking it earlier than advised, your symptoms may come back.

Common side effects include somnolence (sleepiness), dry mouth, fatigue, fever, cough, nasopharyngitis, and nosebleed. These are usually mild and go away after a couple of days as your body adjusts to it. Consult your doctor if any of the side effects persist or worry you.

Before taking it, tell your doctor if you have any kidney problems or epilepsy (seizures). Your dose may need to be modified or this medicine may not suit you. Some other medicines can interact with this medicine so let your healthcare team know what else you are taking. You should also talk to your doctor before using this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, although it is not thought to be harmful.

Side Effects

Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Common side effects of ETHCET-5 TABLETS

  • Sleepiness
  • Fatigue
  • Dryness in mouth
  • Nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the throat and nasal passages)
  • Sore throat
  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Nosebleeds

Usage

Treatment of Common allergies, hay fever (an allergy caused by pollen or dust), conjunctivitis (red, itchy eye), eczema (dermatitis), hives (red, raised patches or dots), reactions to insect bites or stings and some food allergies.

Concerns

Hypersensitivity: Individuals allergic to Levocetirizine or any other ingredients in ETHCET-5 should avoid this medication.

Sedation: Although Levocetirizine is less sedating than some other antihistamines, drowsiness can still occur, especially if combined with alcohol or sedative medications.

Renal Impairment: ETHCET-5 should be used with caution in patients with reduced kidney function, as Levocetirizine is primarily excreted through the kidneys.

When not to use?

ETHCET-5 should not be used in the following cases:

  • Patients with a known allergy to Levocetirizine or similar antihistamines
  • Individuals with severe kidney impairment (creatinine clearance less than 10 mL/min)
  • Children under 6 years of age without doctor consultation
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women, unless approved by a healthcare provider

Warnings

PREGNANCY

ETHCET-5 TABLETS should be used in pregnant women only if it is considered necessary by the physician. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

BREASTFEEDING

ETHCET-5 TABLETS may pass through breast milk. Therefore, it should be used in breastfeeding women only if it is considered necessary by the physician.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

ETHCET-5 TABLETS may cause excessive sleepiness or tiredness. Therefore, do not drive or operate any heavy tools or machines if your ability is affected by OKACET L TABLET.

ALCOHOL

Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking ETHCET-5 TABLETS as it might make you feel dizzier and drowsier.

KIDNEY

ETHCET-5 TABLETS is not recommended for use in patients with kidney failure. It should be used with caution in patients with other kidney problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

LIVER

ETHCET-5 TABLETS should be used with caution in patients with liver problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

ALLERGY

Do not take ETHCET-5 TABLETS if you are allergic to levocetirizine or to any other antihistamines (Ex. cetirizine, hydroxyzine)

OTHERS

Before taking ETHCET-5 TABLETS , inform your doctor if you:

Suffer from epilepsy(fits) or are at risk of developing convulsions

Are unable to pass urine (due to spinal cord injury or due to enlarged prostate)

Are scheduled for any allergic testing

Use in pediatrics

ETHCET-5 TABLETS should be used in children and adolescents (aged 6 years or above) only if prescribed by the physician. It is not recommended for use in children aged below 6 years. Therefore, consult your doctor for advice.

Use in geriatrics

ETHCET-5 TABLETS  should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years or above). Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

Dosage

Overdose

Symptoms may include dizziness, nausea, rash or severe allergic reactions. If this happens to you, inform your doctor immediately.

Missed a Dose

Take the missed dose as early as you remember. Leave the missed dose and do not take extra medicine to compensate for the missed dose.

Interactions

Certain medications that may interact with levocetirizine and increase the side effects are theophylline (used to treat lung and airway problems) and ritonavir (anti-HIV).

Discuss it with your doctor about any other medicine, herbal preparation and supplements you are taking currently to avoid any possible interactions.

General Instructions

  • Take ETHCET-5 as directed by your doctor.
  • Do not exceed the recommended dosage.
  • Avoid alcohol and sedatives while on this medication.
  • Store ETHCET-5 in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
  • Keep the medicine out of reach of children.
