Summary
ETHIXDOXY-LB is a combination antibiotic containing Doxycycline and Lactic Acid Bacillus. Doxycycline is a broad-spectrum tetracycline-class antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections, while Lactic Acid Bacillus helps restore gut flora and prevents antibiotic-associated diarrhea. This combination is effective in treating respiratory infections, skin infections, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), urinary tract infections (UTIs), and gastrointestinal infections.
Side Effects
While generally well-tolerated, ETHIXDOXY-LB may cause:
- Common Side Effects: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, and headache.
- Serious Side Effects: Severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing), liver toxicity, photosensitivity (increased sensitivity to sunlight), and esophageal irritation.
- Long-Term Effects: Prolonged use may lead to antibiotic resistance, fungal infections, or vitamin deficiencies.
Usage
- Take ETHIXDOXY-LB exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
- Swallow the capsule whole with a full glass of water.
- Do not lie down immediately after taking the capsule to avoid esophageal irritation.
- Best taken on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. If stomach upset occurs, take it with food or milk.
- Complete the full course of treatment even if symptoms improve early.

When not to use?

Dosage
Recommended Dosage for Adults
- Mild Infections: 100 mg once daily or 50 mg twice daily.
- Severe Infections: 100 mg twice daily.
- Acne Treatment: 50-100 mg daily for 6-12 weeks.
- Malaria Prophylaxis: 100 mg once daily, starting 1-2 days before travel and continued for 4 weeks after leaving the endemic area.
Children (Above 8 Years, Weight-Based)
- 2 mg/kg body weight every 12 hours (not exceeding adult dose).
Missed Dose: Take the missed dose as soon as possible unless it's close to the next dose. Do not double dose.
Overdose: Seek immediate medical attention if overdose symptoms (vomiting, liver toxicity) occur.
Interactions
Drug Interactions
- Antacids & Dairy Products: Reduce doxycycline absorption. Take ETHIXDOXY-LB 2 hours before or after such products.
- Blood Thinners (Warfarin): Increases risk of bleeding.
- Oral Contraceptives: May reduce birth control effectiveness; use backup contraception.
- Anti-Seizure Medications (Phenytoin, Carbamazepine): Decrease doxycycline levels.
- Iron & Zinc Supplements: May reduce absorption; take separately.
General Instructions
- Take with plenty of water to prevent esophageal irritation.
- Avoid alcohol as it may worsen side effects.
- Do not take expired Doxycycline, as it may cause kidney damage.
- Monitor for allergic reactions, especially if taking for the first time.
- If taking for acne, results may take 6-12 weeks.
